In the modern world, stress and hypertension are prevalent health issues that affect millions globally. These conditions not only impair daily functioning but also pose significant risks for serious health complications like heart disease and stroke.

Sarpagandha, known scientifically as Rauwolfia serpentina, offers a natural and effective solution to these problems. This ancient Ayurvedic herb has been used for centuries to treat various ailments, particularly stress and hypertension.

The key to its efficacy lies in the alkaloid reserpine, which helps regulate heart rate and soothe the nervous system.

Botanical description

Scientific Name: Rauwolfia serpentina

Family Name: Apocynaceae

Common Names:

English: Sepentina root, Indian snakeroot, Rauvolfia root, serpentine root

Hindi: Chandrabhaga, Chota chand, Dhaval barua

The roots of the mature plant are the parts used in traditional medicine, and they are collected with the bark intact from plants that are 3-4 years old.

How Sarpagandha works

Stress Relief: Sarpagandha is known for its tranquilizing properties, which make it an excellent remedy for stress and anxiety. It works by slowing down the activity of the nervous system, providing a calming effect.

Hypertension Management: The alkaloid Reserpine lowers blood pressure by reducing the levels of certain neurotransmitters in the brain. This helps dilate the arteries and improve blood flow, thereby managing hypertension effectively.
